Guest Post: The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to the Gym

Calling all gym newbies. Looking to join a gym and improve your fitness? Well, you are not alone because there are others who feel the same but sometimes the fear of stepping foot inside of a gym can be daunting. The gym can have a reputation of being an intimidating place, especially for beginners. It’s time to unleash the inner gym goddess in you and release endorphins with my ultimate beginner’s guide to the gym.

Believe in yourself

First things first, say goodbye to those moments of self-doubt when it comes to the gym. We all have them, especially when it means being in the weights room. ‘What if I don’t know what I’m doing?’ ‘Will everyone look at me?’ And ‘why am I the only woman?’ You have every right to be in the gym as much as anyone else. Step into the gym with confidence, even if you feel far from it. It’s the first step to becoming a fitter and more awesome you!

Ditch the comparisons

‘Comparison is the thief of joy’, said Theodore Roosevelt and comparing yourself to another person at the gym will not get you very far. It’s a mistake that one to many chose to make. Solution? Just say hi! It may seem like that other girl is way more experienced than you, but behind that resting gym face is likely to be someone who finds 50 squats as tricky as you do.

Treat yourself

If you look the part, you feel the part right? Finally, give your wardrobe a fitness makeover, for the ultimate confidence boost! Whether it’s just a buying a new sports bra, some posh leggings, or those trainers you’ve wanted for ages, often all you need to motivate you is some new sports clothing. Choose from a range of NEUapparel, with styles to suit all exercise types for a luxe, and flattering style.

Be safe with your equipment

If you are unsure about the equipment, or literally don’t have a scooby on where to start, a helping hand is always there; all you have to do is ask!

Don’t be afraid to try new things

Sweating it out on the cross trainer may be great for one person, but doesn’t mean it’s going to work for you. Finding a form of exercise, you actually love will not only make going to the gym that bit more enjoyable, but also give you a mighty boost of confidence! Signing up to fitness classes is a great way to try new exercises.

Don’t be embarrassed to sweat

It may feel like all eyes are on you, but the truth is everyone in the gym is too self-conscious of how they look themselves to even notice you. So what if there’s a little sweat here and there? It means you are working hard, right? But remember to ALWAYS wipe down equipment after usage. Set a good example, you don’t want a gross reputation at your gym.
